For a tasty high tea with a picturesque learning curve, check out the bush tucker experience at Roma Street Parkland.
Starting at 10am at The Hub, you'll be greeted by your extremely knowledgeable volunteer host. Over the next 90 minutes, explore the park's rainforest and learn about the diverse range of edible fruits, roots, nuts, seeds and leaves which grow naturally in the Australian bush and have been used by Indigenous Australians for thousands of years. From what can be eaten and used for medicine, to how you can create a bed or shelter, you'll see a whole different side to unassuming plants and flowers. Afterwards, the group is led to The Garden Room Cafe for a bush tucker-inspired high tea with a selection of sweet and savoury delights which incorporate and celebrate native Australian foods. With rosemary, mountain pepper and cheddar scones served with bush tomato relish and cream cheese, it's a little different from the usual jam and cream but it works! Also on the menu are lemon myrtle butter biscuits and finger lime and lemon drizzle cake (my favourite item - delicious!), along with a loose-leaf Australian native tea or Barista espresso coffee. When: On the third Saturday of each month at 10am Where: Roma Street Parkland and The Garden Room Cafe Price: $47.95pp For more information and to make your booking, see here.
